Open Knowledge Maps is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the visibility of scientific knowledge. Their mission is to create maps of scientific concepts to help spread knowledge. They take an open approach, using open source software, open content, and working transparently. The organization is made up of volunteers and advisors and has had over 200,000 site visits and 400 participants in its first 18 months. Their long term business model involves transitioning to membership and donation funding.
