This document discusses the design and simulation of a multi-segmented hemispherical dielectric resonator antenna (HDRA) for wideband applications.
The HDRA consists of four segments of dielectric material separated by air gaps, which achieves an 80% impedance bandwidth from 2.8-5.2 GHz with improved radiation patterns. Simulations using Ansoft HFSS and CST Microwave Studio show good agreement. Key findings include an optimized probe length of 10.9mm and radius of 20mm for the DR segments. The antenna demonstrates good omnidirectional polarization over the operating band.
