RSS, Blogging, Online Tutorials and More: Putting the Library 2.0 pieces together
Introduction New (and old) technology tools you can use to add value to your online catalog Collectively many of these tools are known as Web 2.0 Blogs, RSS, podcasts, online tutorials
Rick Anderson, UNLV   In my library, we’ve seen a 55 percent drop in circulation rates over the past twelve years, making it harder and harder to justify the continued buildup of a large “just in case” print collection. As a Web 2.0 reality continues to emerge and develop, our patrons will expect access to everything – digital collections of journals, books, blogs, podcasts, etc. You think they can’t have everything?  Think again.  This may be our great opportunity.

Child’s Play?
Refresher Web 2.0 – not just about websites anymore. Web 2.0 refers to shared network space that touches multiple aspects of our lives: work, cultural, education, social, research and entertainment. Constantly updated content is embedded in other applications. Emphasis on simplicity, interactivity, user participation, new or remixed content. Examples include Flickr, My Library Thing, Blogs, Google Videos Library 2.0 – simply frames Web 2.0 tools in the context of the library and specifically in terms of making our services more user-centered by means of these new technology tools. Syndicate – any new content/entries added to a feed (podcast, RSS or weblog) is automatically made available for others to access via their feed reader.
