2. What is Reddit?
● Reddit is a source for what's new and popular on the Internet.
● Reddit is made up of many individual communities, also known
as "subreddits". Each community has its own page, subject
matter, users and moderators.
● Users post stories, links, and media to these communities, and
other users vote and comment on the posts.
● Through voting, users determine what posts rise to the top of
community pages and, by extension, the public home page of the
site.
● There are subreddits about literally everything!
4
● r/worldnews : A place for major news all over the world!
● r/CryptoCurrency : Source for cryptocurrency news, discussion &
analysis.
● r/gifs : Full of funny, animated gifs.
● r/FoodPorn : A happy place for foodies!
● r/Showerthoughts : A subreddit to share anything that goes on in your
head whilst in the shower.
● r/photoshopbattles : Images manipulated at its finest (and funniest).
● r/oddlysatisfying : For those little things that are inexplicably satisfying...
● r/MurderedByWords : A place for well-constructed put-downs,
comebacks, and counter-arguments.

3. How does Reddit work?
● Bulletin board system
- Subscribe to each subreddit
- Text/link/video post & comment
● Voting system
- Upvote & downvote
- The more votes, the higher that post/comment appears
● Karma system
- How much a user has contributed to the community
- Post & comment karma based on its upvotes
7
↓Posts can be upvoted or downvoted

4. Marketing on Reddit
● Time-consuming, but if done right, very powerful.
● The key is to understand the Reddit audience.
- Identify the right subreddit, the right format, the right tone.
- Be one of them. Engaged, friendly, authentic, humorous!
1. Search through the Top subreddits and find the related ones.
2. Participate actively to learn the language on Reddit.
3. Analyze which content is working and which is not.
10
1) Advertisement
- Bidding system, CPM based (bid from $0.20 to $100)
- Daily spend minimum $5, but the real spend can be up to 20% higher
- Promoted posts/Banner Ads (2 sizes)
2) Organic Growth
- Make your own subreddit (at least 30 days old, 30 karma)
- Actively participate in the right subreddits
3) Be creative
- AMA (Ask me anything) to communicate real-time and directly
- Competition or contest (ex. Nissan)

12
● HIGH QUALITY
- You need to tailor your posts and comments. Relevant and discussion-worthy
content is always appreciated and is more likely to get upvotes. Karma points are
earned by upvotes, not by the number of posts.
● Multiple accounts
- Managing multiple accounts can be useful to guarantee some upvotes to your posts
and comments. However, Reddit detects the usage of accounts by tracking the IP
address, so using VPN is highly recommended.
- Also, Redditors are extremely good at picking out manipulated upvotes. That’s why
the first tip cannot be emphasized too much.
● No direct promotion
- Unless you’ve already secured your own subreddit, be very subtle when mentioning
your product or service in other subreddits. Try to maintain a posting ratio of 5:1 to
10:1 when it comes to self-promotion.
5. Tips & Tricks
13
● Try posting between 1 AM and 7 AM (US)
- Your post is more likely to get attention with fewer competition. Posting right before
the rush hour could be a way. But the result may vary depending on the subreddit.
● Upvote your post immediately
- Either by using multiple accounts or by asking your friends, upvoting right after the
submission can be very effective to boost that post. This is because the algorithm of
Reddit favors newer posts over the old ones.
● The ‘Reddiquette’
- Each subreddit has its own set of rules. Reddiquette is an informal expression of the
values of many redditors, so please abide by it the best you can. No spam, no illegal
content, etc.
5. Tips & Tricks
14
5. Tips & Tricks
● Wit & humor
- Not always, but whenever you can. Redditors love puns, irony and a pinch of sarcasm.
For example, write creative titles for your link posts. Appropriate quotes and memes
can be also helpful.
● Promote your subreddit
- Once you make the subreddit, don’t expect the users to come right away. You need
to bring them to your subreddit via banner ads, by using “r/yoursubreddit” in other
subreddits, etc. If you have other social media platforms, make sure to provide the link
to your subreddit on them.
● Monitor the subreddits
- Preferably everyday, constantly. Sharing the right info at the right moment can be
very helpful to earn karma points in fast speed. But also keep in mind that
cross-posting in various subreddits is strongly discouraged.
15
6. Dos
1. Target your submissions to the best subreddits.
2. Participate in discussions.
3. Use well-written informative titles in standard English.
4. Look for legitimately interesting, novel, quality content.
5. Have thick skin
16
6. Don’ts
1. Don’t lie.
2. Don’t use buzzword-filled “corporatese.”
3. Don’t misrepresent your affiliation to a company.
4. Don’t attempt to “game” karma or upvotes.
5. Never submit the same comment many times to different
subreddits
6. Don’t submit links only to your website
7. Don’t ask for upvotes
8. Steer clear of illegal content
9. Don’t share anyone’s private information
10. Don’t be overly promotional
17
