LECTURE METHOD
• The word lecture comes from the Latin word "lectus" which means
to read.
• Lecture method is an oldest method of teaching.
• Lecture method is a teaching method in which the presenter or the
teacher teaches orally to a group of class participants, lecture
method is used to convey information and theories.
• Lecture is generally describing as a teacher centred teaching
method involving one-way communication.
• This method is also called "chalk and talk method".
LECTURE METHOD
Situation when lecture method suits best
• 1: - When strength is great: It is used for large classes when strength of student
is high.
• 2: - When starting a new topic: Through this method, new subject matter can
easily be introduced and it presents the subject matter in a systemic way.
• 3: - When trying to cover lesson plan or syllabus quickly: Teacher can teach
his planned lesson very quickly by giving lecture.
• 4: - Trying to given summarization: This method is good for summarization
of lengthy topics.
Organization of lecture
• 1: - Identity aims and objectives: Teacher uses his techniques and
present such a content which relies to achieve a logical presentation
and by it students can get something.
• 2: - Introduction/explanation/ Conclusion: It refers to simple
introduction of topic, explain in such way that it will be simple and
understandable for students and at the end give a summarization or
conclusion of that topic.
• 3: - Question explanation: It simply refers the time to asking
questions to students and in order to explain more.
• 4: - Gesturing and maintaining eye contact: Teacher should not be
stationary, He should move and getting attention of students.
Strength/ advantages
• Teacher teaches a large number of students.
• Teacher conveys a large amount of information in a short time.
• Teacher has complete control.
• Minimum chance of distraction.
• It develops the habit of concentration among students.
• It links previous knowledge with new.
Disadvantages
• 1: - Little opportunity of question-answering: Students are hardly given the
opportunity for asking question.
• 2: - Students are passive: Students usually don't participate the class
activities.
• 3: - Bordon and poor concentration: This method is one way and teacher
centred so students can't concentrate and get bored.
