In the past year (& well, ever since “life” put me out of China) I’ve had to close chapters & navigate changes both in my personal & work life just to open new ones. 🤗 It can get pretty tough sometimes, especially if there’s something or someone else involved in the process & the decision of moving on to the next thing isn’t just yours. 😬 At this stage I’ve figured out a method that helps me each & every time to move on from things faster & help both my mind & my heart feel lighter. 😎 It is a bit of a tough process & it’s often painful at first, I’m not gonna lie, but it really works wonders so, let me share it with you. ➡️ Step 1: Empty your brain And what I mean by this is, write down on a paper everything that’s holding space on your mind. EVERYTHING! ➡️ Step 2: Categorise those thoughts Divide them into ✅ FACTS (this is the reality and exactly what happened) & ✅ EMOTIONS (this is how I feel about it) ➡️ Step 3: ask yourself what it is that you really REALLY want. And write it down too! 🤓 This is where things start to get hard because you need to look deep down into yourself & be brutally honest. Cry if you need to. Feel the pain if there’s any, it’s ok, but do the work, you’ll see why! ♥️ ➡️ Step 4: evaluate those 3 lists and ask yourself questions. - What would happen if those current facts changed in the mid/long term? - How would I feel if that happened? Would it matter? - Is this thing truly aligned with what I want in my future? How? - How can I improve the things that didn’t work out this time? - What things went well and what do I want to keep for the future? - What did I learn from this situation? - How is this helping me grow? ➡️ Step 5: find coherence within yourself Whenever you’re in turmoil 🤯 it is because there’s something clashing in your mind so, find out exactly what that is and ask yourself: - what is it that doesn’t feel aligned right now? - Am I acting according to the facts, my feelings or both? - What can I do to find that alignment? - Am I willing to do whatever it takes to feel aligned again even if that means being open and vulnerable with myself and others? ➡️ Step 6: take action Actually be coherent and take the actions needed to make you feel aligned again ➡️ Step 7: let it sit Now you’ve done everything that’s in your power and you’re still probably on a roller coaster🎢 but trust me, that’s normal. You’ll need a bit of time to get used to the changes ➡️ Step 8: move on to the next thing Now you’re ready to take another step towards the direction you want. You’ve done the work & not only you’ll be fine, but you’ll also keep your confidence intact 😎 I am not a psychologist nor a therapist but people often say I’m very mentally strong & this method has been working for me this far so, you may want to give it a try as well! ☺️ What do you do when you need to move on to the next thing or navigate changes? Blend both — seek out folks who challenge you and reflect your potential. 4️⃣ 𝑮𝒂𝒎𝒆 𝑷𝒍𝒂𝒏 & 𝑬𝒙𝒆𝒄𝒖𝒕𝒆 : Don’t just dream — write down goals and work at them relentlessly. Like biryani, good things take time and effort. A little self-awareness goes a long way. One of the most powerful exercises I've ever done is asking the people closest to me—co-workers, friends, and family—two key questions: 1. What am I uniquely good at? 2. What bad habits would I benefit from addressing? Ask a few of the folks you’re closest to (co-workers, friends, your spouse) the next time you have a coffee or a beer. Ideally though, you ask 8-15 people and write down their responses. Alternatively, send out a survey with 3-5 variations of these questions. The nuances in the different answers may reveal something important. For example, compare "What special skill do you think I'm gifted with?" to "What are your three favorite qualities you see in me?"
