Many more businesses are embracing the concept of the "Triple Bottom Line," which measures success not just by financial profit ("Profit"), but also by the company's impact on people ("People") and the planet ("Planet"). HOWEVER 🚨 There is more work to be done! The prioritization of non-financial elements of organizational success can get pushed aside when financial pressures hit or quick results are valued. You have probably heard the phrase "What gets measured gets managed". This is generally true. Quantifying and measuring non-financial aspects of effectiveness, such as employee well-being, social impact, and workplace culture, is hugely important but remains challenging. 💡 Here's some straightforward steps to move you towards a more holistic approach to measuring success: 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐜𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝐠𝐨𝐚𝐥𝐬: Define what holistic success means for your organization. This could include specific targets related to employee well-being, social impact, and environmental sustainability. In previous post I shortly mentioned Leaders Standard Work (LSW). As we all know LSW refers to the set of routines, behaviors, and tasks that leaders (especially top management) at all levels of an organization perform consistently to support the achievement of organizational goals. It includes activities such as Gemba walks, team meetings, performance reviews, strategic planning sessions, etc. However, do we all know that LSW how powerful is and how crucial role plays? The purpose of LSW is to establish a clear framework for leaders to follow, ensuring consistency, accountability, and alignment with organizational objectives. LSW holds significant power in organizations, serving as a catalyst for excellence and driving transformative change. Here’s a breakdown of its power which till now I can point: 1. Setting the Example Leaders are role models within an organization. Pacticing LSW , they set the example for others to follow, reinforcing the importance of lean principles and behaviors. LSW establishes clear expectations for leaders, promoting accountability for their actions and behaviors. When leaders consistently follow standardized routines and practices, it sets a precedent for accountability throughout the organization. 2. To achieve the desired improvement, we must be willing to change our goals and the plans that support them. This starts by reassessing our objectives, making sure they align with current needs, business controls, market demands, or strategic shifts. Without a clear and updated values and vision, improvement lacks direction. Once the goals are updated, the processes we use to achieve them must be redesigned. This means analyzing and refining workflows, removing inefficiencies, and introducing new methods or tools that make reaching those goals more achievable. Efficient processes are the backbone of effective execution, turning plans into results. Finally, improvement requires that we change how we perform our jobs. This includes adopting new skills, adjusting daily routines, and embracing new mindsets. Change at the individual level is often the most challenging but also the most crucial, as it brings the plans and processes to life, making the entire improvement effort come together. Although the design team does not have a profit and loss responsibility, as leaders, we should understand all management aspects of our teams. Here are 6 factors that will elevate Design’s strategic stance in the organization and drive success forward: 1️⃣ Become Financial Stewards: We must have a deep understanding of our design team’s financials, our budget, our sources of funding, and the costs of the team to the organization. As Design leaders, we are responsible for managing resources effectively and ensuring the design function is a financially responsible contributor to the organization. 2️⃣ Align with Organizational Goals and Priorities: As Design leaders, we must ensure our teams understand the company’s overall vision and business objectives.
