BSD is dead. Except the iPhone, PlayStation 3-5, NetApp, and Netflix’s streaming appliance. You’d also have to make exceptions for the Nintendo Switch network stack, QNX’s network stack, portions of the Windows network stack and the ISPs who use BSD appliances to power the internet. You’d also want to make the same exceptions for the storage stack as a myriad of projects use the VFS subsystem and UFS filesystem. Windows POSIX implementation is also BSD derived but you can cut that out. Once you make an exception for roughly a billion devices BSD is dead. RIP.🪦

RUMOR: PS6 might be the only next-gen console with paid multiplayer access According to Windows Central, Microsoft plans to remove paid online multiplayer for the next Xbox generation. Experts believe Sony won’t change its PS Plus model, unless competition forces its hand — but that seems highly unlikely.

🎮🐧 Irony of the Year: Linux Makes ASUS ROG Ally Faster Than Windows While Microsoft struggles with the fallout from yet another Windows 11 update, tech enthusiasts are finding unexpected ways to boost device performance. One such method? Installing Linux on the hybrid ASUS ROG Ally console. YouTube channel Cyber Dopamine compared the console’s performance under the official Xbox Full Screen Experience (based on Windows) and the alternative Bazzite shell. The results are striking: 🔹In Kingdom Come: Deliverance II, FPS increased by 32% (from 47 to 62). 🔹In Hogwarts Legacy, Linux also performed better - especially under high power settings. 🔹Average frame rate gain across all tests: +6.6 fps. But the real surprise? Stability and speed. With Linux, the console enters and exits sleep mode instantly. Xbox FSE takes 55 seconds to do the same. Windows 11 is adding shared Bluetooth audio in Insider builds, letting one PC stream to two Bluetooth LE Audio devices. Initially limited to Copilot+ Snapdragon-based Surface Laptop 7 and Surface Pro 11, support will expand to Samsung Galaxy Book5/Book4 Edge and newer Surface models after a driver update. A Shared Audio tile will appear in Quick Settings. Compatible devices include Galaxy Buds2 Pro/Buds3/Buds3 Pro, Sony WH-1000XM6, and select ReSound/Beltone hearing aids.

Apple has reportedly put the Mac Pro on the back burner. Mark Gurman says sentiment inside Apple favors Mac Studio as the pro desktop future, with focus on an M5 Ultra Mac Studio. He expects no significant Mac Pro update in 2026. For many, Mac Pro is redundant, offering PCIe slots but little advantage over Mac Studio. The last Mac Pro refresh was M2 Ultra in June 2023. An M5 Ultra Mac Pro isn’t entirely ruled out, but seems unlikely.
