Design Engineer or Product Designer? Easy to hire the wrong one first. Design Engineers are great at making things feel polished. Smooth animations, clean component libraries, buttery interactions. But they won't figure out why users are confused by your product. That's what Product Designers do. They watch users struggle. They redesign flows that don't work. They turn "what is this?" into "oh, I get it." Design Engineers make good design feel premium. Product Designers make confusing products make sense. The question: Can users actually accomplish what they came to do? If no → Product Designer If yes, but it feels rough → Design Engineer It's tempting to jump to polish before nailing the fundamentals. Get the experience right first. Started off discussing design systems yesterday,wr actually not done with it😋😄. Most times,when you design or product feels inconsistent, you don’t need more designers,what you need is a proper well built design system. Nah why be this : Consistency Without Copy-Paste: Design systems make your product feel unified, same language, same energy, same experience no matter who designs the screen. Faster Design: When patterns and components are defined, you stop rebuilding buttons, modals, and spacing from scratch. Less repetition → more time for solving real problems. Better Collaboration: All your designers finally speak the same language. Tokens, components, naming conventions now all align to reduce the “this doesn’t look like the design” conversations. 😅 Scalability: As your product grows, your system grows too.Like I said yesterday,your product is like a living thing that evolves each day. A solid design system helps everyone linked to the product (from new designers, developers and even project managers) onboard quickly and build with confidence. A design system isn’t a luxury for your team,it’s the foundation for the product.

Hot take: Not every company needs a designer to succeed...... 👀 I’ve worked with teams that literally never had a designer. PMs and engineers were making all the calls. And guess what? The company didn’t die. The product shipped. Users were happy. Revenue grew. How? The engineers had solid product instincts. The PMs had good taste and user intuition. It wasn’t perfect, but it worked. Now… Eventually, yeah, design starts to matter a lot. Once a product matures, the cracks start to show. Things get messy, inconsistent and clunky. Design helps clean it up. Tighten the screws. Make things actually enjoyable. And when those same teams finally bring in a designer? They’re like: 🔥 “Holy shit. This is so much better.” Because it is. But here’s where we mess up: 👉🏼 We start believing every org needs a designer from day one. That we’re essential no matter what. Sometimes… that’s just our ego talking. At the end of the day, not every team needs a designer. Early in my career, I used to go straight into solutions colorful buttons, layout ideas, and cool animations. Cause we are designers that's what we right? I was designing for users but not always designing with users in mind. you see the difference Then design thinking changed everything. It taught me that before I sketch a screen, i must first listen. like really listen on what they want. Empathy is actually a strategy. And with it come Problem-solving, which I need to understand a little beneath the surface. That brought me to know Great products don’t just work they care. That people aren’t users they’re humans with goals, frustrations, habits, and stories • The first solution is hardly the right one • Iteration isn’t a sign of mistakes it’s a sign of progress • Feedback may be uncomfortable, but silence is dangerous I’ve learned to ask better questions and this has helped even if i see things clearly I tend to look for a fault and ask what if Because design thinking works well when you uses logic and empathy, too much of emotions makes you see things blurry When I design, I’m no longer just placing elements on a screen. I’m building bridges between people and technology. I’m creating experiences that respect time, reduce stress, and fulfill purpose. And that, to me, is the heart of product design

There’s one line a former boss said that I can’t forget. Everything we do in design is communication. That one sentence changed how I saw my work. It made design about how ideas traveled between people, not just visuals, layouts, or interactions. Every design decision becomes a sentence in a larger conversation. Color, hierarchy, spacing, and motion all speak. They tell a story about what matters, what’s possible, and what’s next. Regardless of the medium, product, or service, our work isn’t of any merit if it can’t be effectively communicated to the people experiencing it. The intent of use behind a product is just as important as how it’s expressed. The work isn’t just making something look right. Many designers assume that if constraints aren’t mentioned, they don’t exist. But they always do. And as you grow more senior, your job is to find them. We’ve seen this internally too — teams exploring great ideas that could never ship because they didn’t fit the constraints: timeline, tech, or scope. Ignoring constraints leads to waste, delays, rework, and frustration. Just because no one said it doesn’t mean it isn’t there. Some constraints are explicit; others live only in the founder’s or client’s head. Time, budget, tech stack, frameworks, legal limits — they all shape what’s possible. It ties back to assumptions: believing you know what wasn’t discussed. That’s where design starts to drift from reality. How to fix it: Before you start designing, uncover the boundaries. Ask questions early. Define the real limits — timeline, scope, tech, and goals. Clarity on constraints doesn’t kill creativity — it focuses it. Less waste. More impact.

Every field is trying to get into every other field. PMs are learning design. Designers are writing specs. Researchers are building prototypes. It’s not because we all want to learn how to do everyone else’s jobs. It’s because the expectations for product, research, and design roles are shifting. The gap between a generalist and a specialist is getting smaller. A PM might not design like a senior designer, but they can get close enough to move faster. Same with designers picking up PM skills, or engineers doing research. The truth is, nobody feels secure about the future. But the people who will succeed in this environment are the ones who can be flexible and adapt.
