- [Instructor] You've done your research. You've simplified language, removed jargon, and added examples. Now you have one more critical step before finalizing your plain language content, getting feedback from real users. The most direct way to do user testing is to recruit at least three people from your target audience. Ideally, people who match the education level, expertise, age, cultural background, and other traits of your real audience. You want to sit with them one at a time as they try to get information from your document. See where they struggle or have questions. Ask what was confusing. This can help you find areas you need to expand or make simpler. Start by explaining your goals and the kind of feedback you want, and ask each person about their past experiences getting information in your area, and their likely future needs so you understand exactly how they fit into your target audience.
