- In this lesson, we're going to look at IP version four addresses. These addresses have been around in popular usage since the '70s, right? They've been around a long time. We have two choices. Private, no internet access, public, on a public subnet, internet access. So private, private communications, public, internet communications. Where do we get them from? Assigned from the VPC CIDR, if we're talking about the private IP addresses, Amazon doesn't want you using public, but you can turn it on. You can say, "Hey, Amazon, give me a DHCP address. Assign it to an instance in a subnet for me." If I'm assigning dynamic addresses, that means I don't have to worry about it. Now, you can overrule Amazon and say, "I'm doing it all manual", but the default is Amazon will manage the address for you and don't worry about it.
