Determining the right participants

- The foundation of effective research relies on the quality of its participants. Make sure that you have the right number and an accurate sample of your real or target users. If you're in the beginning stages of defining your target user and you don't have validated personas, you can create what are called proto-personas. Proto-personas are essentially descriptions of assumptions that you can use as hypotheses in your research. They're meant to align the team around existing knowledge or guesses. You can use the assumptions to help guide your recruitment efforts, but keep in mind that you'll need to refine as you learn more about your users. If you already have flushed out personas, you'll need to find representatives of each of the different groups for your research.
