4G packet data network gateway (PGW)

4G packet data network gateway (PGW)

(upbeat music) - [Instructor] If the LTE network were a city, the PGW would be like its international airport. It's where all your traffic either enters or exits the core network to connect with the outside world, like the internet or IMS for VoLTE. Now, the PGW is the final stop inside the LTE core before your data heads out, and it is having a different key responsibilities. The PGW allocates the IP addresses to the different user devices, and each device needs a unique IP to communicate over the internet. So PGW either allocates a dynamic IP from a pool or assign a static IP for enterprise or special applications. For example, your phone might get 10.254.1.27 assigned by the PGW as an IP, and this IP stays with your device throughout the session, and it's how the internet knows where to send data back. PGW is also responsible for enforcing the policies. It work closely with PCRF, which is policy and charging rules function to enforce the data policies. And these policies define how…
