4G LTE evolution: 4.5G
(upbeat electronic music) - [Instructor] Did you know that what we call 4G or LTE isn't just one version of a network, but it is a whole series of upgrades? It is like how your smartphone gets smarter with each software upgrade. So does the LTE. And we are going to explore how LTE has evolved through multiple 3GPP releases from basic LTE to advanced LTE and then to Advanced Pro, which is also termed as 4.5G or gigabit LTE. Let's break it down into three simple parts. Every evolution happens based on these key three factors, architecture, radio advancement and any new features. We are adding up starting with the Release 8, which is introduced as a basic LTE, which was a game changer as compared to 2G and 3G networks where the flat architecture is introduced. We had an evolved radio transport and core network and we have the faster nodes and the faster data delivery. Then comes the LTE-Advanced in Release 10.
