- Chief of staff champion, queen chaos organizer, dynamic dot connector. Guess what? This is an actual headline for a real LinkedIn profile. You guessed it, it's mine. Go ahead and search for me on LinkedIn and you'll find this headline proudly displayed right underneath my name. So what exactly is a LinkedIn headline? Your headline is that catchy one-liner that appears right under your name on your profile. Think of it as your personal branding moment. So make it compelling, unique, and a true showcase of what makes you stand out. Curious where to start? When creating a customized headline, you want to think about what I like to call the big three. First, what are some industry keywords that will help you get discovered by your professional community across LinkedIn? These can be things like employee engagement, software development, B2B sales, or food and beverage service to name a few. Second, pinpoint exactly what you do. Are you an investor, strategy leader or manufacturer? Maybe you started your own consulting business, you fly commercial planes, or you're a hospital doctor or nurse. Whatever it is, use your headline as an opportunity to quickly highlight your role. For example, building data-driven solutions and innovating the future of AI if you're an AI engineer, or maybe something like helping little hearts thrive if you're in the medical field working as a pediatric cardiac nurse. And last but not least, highlight unique skills that set you apart and the passions that drive you. Are you passionate about connecting talent with opportunity? Then add that in. Do you have a side hustle as a photographer or a DJ? Add that in too. Or maybe you have amazing leadership skills or expert coding abilities, be sure to add those as well. So if you're a recruiter who specializes in recruiting for the healthcare industry, this could show up as dream maker, connecting top talent to their dream jobs in healthcare. Or if you're a data center technician who has a side hustle as a photographer, maybe something like this, data center technician by day, photographer by night. Now let's pull the big three into one final example so you can see how this comes to life in an actual profile. Meet Mateo, he wants to customize his headline to incorporate the big three and differentiate himself from others in the same field as him. First, he'll click into the pencil on the top part of his profile to edit. Next, he'll scroll down and find Headline. He currently has his job title listed, so that's what you're seeing here. Mateo's a rockstar and he's already brainstormed his big three. He came up with connecting little hearts to big futures as a Pediatric ICU Nurse. He'll then click Save, and voila, now his new headline appears right underneath his name in his profile. See how he has the big three? His industry keyword is nurse. He highlights what he does by saying connecting little hearts to big futures. And finally, he specializes in pediatric ICU care, a unique skill that not every nurse has. Remember, your headline is your chance to quickly call out your big three so you stand out and capture attention. I get it, crafting the perfect headline can be tough, but don't worry, you're not alone. Lean on your professional community for support and guidance. An easy way to spark some ideas and inspiration is to check out the profile of key industry leaders or influencers in your company or areas of interest. You can also explore the profiles of your colleagues, managers, friends, and mentors to get a broader range of ideas. Lastly, you can always turn to your AI assistants Microsoft Copilot or ChatGPT to spark some headline inspiration.
