What is a lookup table (LUT)?
- Many different manufacturers have started to incorporate lookup tables into their software solutions. And cameras support them as well. But you may not know exactly what they mean. Photoshop has lookup tables, Premiere, it's a plug-in for Final Cut Pro. We'll look at the post tools a little later but I know, Rob, that a lot of people misuse lookup tables. People think that they're magical presets that you just throw at footage and it makes it look sexy. That's not the case. Really a lookup table is simply saying oh, take the visual information and remap it to this new destination. And that can be used creatively or technically. But if the information didn't start out right then you're not going to magically get to the end results that you want. - Absolutely, even before that I think one of the things that's confusing about lookup tables to a lot of people is that they're used for a lot of different things.
