Psychological safety: Encourage openness

One of the things leaders have to do to create psychological safety is create space. And by that I mean carving time and space out where people can roll up their sleeves and brainstorm or problem solve or step back and reflect on what's working or what's not working. In our day-to-day jobs, we're often so busy that we don't carve out the space we need for real learning and real reflection. Carving out space to learn, to grow, to share is absolutely mission-critical to innovation, to creativity, and even to just learning how things are going. Creating space is being purposeful about the need to take interpersonal risks. If we're going to do really good work together, we're going to have to have some tough conversations or be willing to share wild ideas. We're going to have to do those kinds of things that are not easy for people.
