Stop multitasking to find your focus
- Today's tech driven culture treats multitasking as the normal thing to do. Most of us have a high number of tasks we need to complete, meetings to attend, quotas to meet and goals to achieve. And then we have myriad screens, devices, apps, and all of the notifications that go along with them. It's no wonder that we're trying to do more, but we're able to focus less because of our fragmented attention. When we multitask, we get the sense that we're being incredibly efficient, but it's just an illusion. Here's what happens to our brains when we multitask. When the brain switches attention between tasks, it switches off and then restarts with a lag time between each task. This context switching causes attention residue, part of our attention stays on the unfinished tasks.
