Identify elements of an illustrated parts breakdown (IPB)
- [Instructor] Let's talk about illustrated parts breakdown, or IPB. An illustrated parts breakdown is an expanded diagram of smaller parts of a larger assembly drawn in reference to where they are on the said assembly. They usually look like a piece of equipment that has been taken apart. They provide the information necessary to identify parts and their corresponding part numbers for ordering. In some cases, IPBs provide cross-referenced data that can be used when one of the items is not in stock. Manufacturers usually publish IPBs for use by service technicians, to assist in troubleshooting, assembly and disassembly, as well as ordering parts. Most IPBs may include some of the following components. An expanded view of the assembly and sub-assemblies, usually drawn in a 3D view, for reference. A group assembly parts list.
