Working with files and Maya projects

- [Instructor] A Maya scene may pull its information from a number of different sources. You may have bitmaps for textures or backgrounds, you may have models, you may have reference files and so on. To keep these organized, Maya works with what are called projects. So when you first start Maya, you probably want to set a project so that you can work and keep things organized. So we can go into file, set project. Now I'm going to go to my desktop and select that Exercise Files folder. I'm going to go ahead and hit set, but let's take a look at that. So I'm going to go ahead and minimize Maya. Let's go to our desktop, and I'm going to open up Exercise Files. Now, as you can see, it really is just a collection of folders, and this is a way to organize your data as you work with Maya. So probably the most important one is called scenes, and that's where all of your different scenes will live.
