Redirect negative conversations toward solutions

Everyone needs to vent sometimes, but I promise you it's not going to do anyone any good in the long run. Negative conversations can really spread a bad mood fast, especially when the shift is already stressful. One person starts venting, another jumps in with more complaints, and then the whole team feels sour. And listen, I get it. When stuff is going wrong, it can feel like the only thing you can do is complain. But I'm here to tell you that you can always choose productivity over negativity. So here's what I recommend. When someone around you starts venting and complaining, start with validation. Say something like, “Yeah, that does sound frustrating.” People want to feel heard before they're willing to change direction. And let everybody know we're going to take a step back and look at our real problem. And what are we trying to solve? What's our goal? And how do we work together towards that goal? The question flips the focus and moves things from complaint to collaboration. And…
