- How great would it be to understand how well your controls are doing against a certain standard and adapt as necessary? Well, benchmarking and AI can do that. Benchmarking is the act of assessing something against a point of reference. In security, there are tons of standards and frameworks to assess against. A couple might be the National Institute of Standards and Technology Cybersecurity Framework, or NIST CSF, the Center for Internet Security Top 18, or CIS Top 18, ISO 27001 and 27002, and so many more. Depending on what industry you're in or if you're just starting to build a security program, utilizing benchmarking can help you understand where you're at and areas you need to improve in without the use of an auditor. What's awesome is it's already something that exists in some platforms.
