Accessing the Windows Security Center

- Windows 11 has taken all the different security apps and features and set them in a single location called the Windows Security Center. To visit the center, press the keyboard's Windows key to pop up the start menu, type "security" until you see this item, "Windows Security." Open it. The Windows Security app main screen gives you a quick overview of the computer's security status. Each title focuses on a specific topic, virus and threat protection, account protection, firewall, app and browser control, and more. Little green check marks assure you that everything is working well. If you see a yellow warning icon, it means that the item requires attention, as shown here with this item, "Device security," and I'll get back to that in a moment. But for now, pretend that the virus and threat protection item needs attention. You click the tile to view details. If a concern existed, a message appears here informing me of what to be done. Often it's a reminder that the computer hasn't been scanned in a while, which happens with the virus protection, especially with my laptop, which I use sporadically. Otherwise, when a warning isn't present, as is the case now, you see information and controls that let you monitor and configure the security settings. Other areas in the security center are accessed from the sidebar menu. For example, I can check the firewall. Adjustments are made here for this security item. To see the overview, again, go "Home." And back to this item, "Device security," which shows a warning flag. This item covers hardware security, but it works only when specific hardware is available on your computer. As you can see, the Window Security Center is informing me of what to do, and I followed these steps previously. But because this computer system lacks the required hardware, I can't enable this feature, "Core isolation." Your computer may be in the same situation, which is okay, because you've responded as the app requested you to do. This is all that you need to do, and go "Home." Other videos in this course cover specific things to do in the Windows Security Center. Check this resource often. A notification icon appears on the task bar as well, which also shows a wee little warning icon when you need to check in and address whatever issue is being brought up as the security center does its job.
