Preparing your practice sheets
- I know you're eager to start writing, but before we begin we need to prepare our paper. We're going to rule our practice sheets up with exactly the right line spaces and margins to create the right letter proportions. Here's where your straight edge comes into action along with some of the other tools I showed you earlier. Our goal is to square up our paper using the drafting table or board, then to use our T-square and triangle to rule it up. Here's a diagram of what we are about to do. This guide is in your Exercise Files for this course. Ruling up your practice sheets is simple, and it only takes a few minutes. This process also prepares our hands and our minds to focus in on the writing that is to come. Concentrating your attention on the physical act of ruling up your writing surface is just like an athlete warming up with stretching exercises.
