- [Instructor] Your Wi-Fi network can be visible and accessible to others. A wireless access point is a station that functions as a connection between the client computer and an existing network. You can reduce visibility by disabling the SSID broadcast and limit access by filtering MAC addresses to allow only registered devices to join the network. First, let's talk about how we can disable the SSID broadcast to reduce visibility. Now, what's the significance of the SSID? Well, each access point has a service set identifier, or SSID, and this is the network name. An access point will broadcast its SSID by default. This is also called beaconing and it's done so that all wireless devices within its range can see the available network.
