Redundancy

Redundancy

- [Instructor] Our next topic is redundancy and hopefully that speaks for itself, the need to be able to be resilient, to withstand failure or incidents, and continue operations. So we have to think about redundant hardware, redundant servers, redundant systems. We have to think about redundant power. We want to be very comprehensive in our thoughts in relation to redundancy. So the first piece in talking about redundant spares, we can just talk about spare parts and sometimes we talk about hot, warm, cold spares. So a hot spare is right there. It's ready to switch over. It's generally installed ready to go, whereas a cold spare is downstairs in the basement closet and can be accessed, but it's going to take some time to get up and running. Now risk management is going to tell us how many spares we need and whether or not they need to be hot, warm, or cold. Generally the manufacturer is going to provide for us some information. So meantime between failure is exactly what it sounds…
