- [Instructor] When we talk about identity and access management, identity, also called a user or entity, can mean many different things depending on the context for an organization. Once you understand the relevant users for your company, you can outline the different permissions available for each. First, let's discuss the different types of identities. The most common type of user is a person. Most organizations have many people accessing their systems. This can be an employee, a contractor, or a vendor. Another type of user is an agent, someone or something you give permission to act on your behalf. For example, you may give your personal assistant permission to book your travel for you.
