- [Instructor] Here's something else to throw into the mix. How long do you need to keep information around? You might be asking, why worry about this? Data storage is cheap and getting cheaper. I can basically hold onto everything forever. Well although that's true, here's something to consider, the less information you're holding, the less that's at risk in case of a breach. Information has a lifecycle. It changes over time and at some point it may be obsolete. Do you want last year's price list readily available to your customers? Think of the confusion and possible problems that could cause. In some cases, data retention is dictated by legal requirements. Make sure you understand those for the jurisdiction you're operating in. They can vary widely from state to state in the US and there are big differences between the US and other countries.
