The dance of DIBE

- There's an inclusion trailblazer named Verna Myers who came up with a powerful metaphor to help us understand the distinction between some of the key terms in the field of diversity and inclusion. She said, "Diversity is being invited to the party. Inclusion is being asked to dance. When you plan a party, you want to make sure to invite an interesting mix of people. You want people to get along but you also want it to be exciting. Our organizations often function the same way. We need people with different skillsets, experiences and perspectives to be effective. And then once those people are at the party, we need to be good hosts. It can be hard to be the new person in a group, especially if everyone else knows each other or comes from the same background.
