- If you're familiar with Marie Kondo and her methodology for getting rid of things we don't need, you might find the concept of 5S useful for decluttering your meetings. 5S is a philosophy rooted in Japanese traditions that has been adapted to business processes. It's originally meant to organize physical spaces and make problems visible. In English, 5S is made up of sort, set in order, shine, standardize, and sustain. The first S, sorting is where I believe you find the most value in your meeting. To declutter works by removing unnecessary items, distractions, and inefficiencies to ensure only what is essential remains.
