Mostly predictive, a little agile
- Hybrid approaches are increasingly being recognized. Industry publications that include data from survey results indicate an upward trend in the utilization of hybrids. In my experience, some of this recognition is based on people accepting that while they may be referred to an agile team or a scrum team, the reality is that they are not. Their approach is a combination of agile and some predictive. Let's return to the two ends of the spectrum, with predictive on one end and agile on the other. The span between the ends where elements from both are combined forms a hybrid. On the left side, the approaches are based on the premise that projects are predictable in terms of the definition of requirements, the work to implement them, and the people involved in testing and validating them.
