- A hugely undervalued topic in business is judgment. Bad judgment is responsible for the demise of some fantastic ideas that could have transformed organizations. And also for the adoption of things that should never have seen the light of day, like free-form jazz. I mean, seriously, people. Seriously? Here's an exercise to help people think about things in different ways and to assess their value. If you want to judge properly, you need to know what the most important criteria are. People may think they have lots of experience and can trust their gut reaction but that's not great if you're looking for new ideas. A gut reaction is designed to lead people away from anything risky or unfamiliar, which means people are more likely to have an adverse reaction to any ideas that are new or innovative.
