Course details

Explore the beauty and diversity of Germany as you learn how to navigate real-life conversations in German. In this course—the third in a five-part series from The Great Courses—join instructor James Pfrehm, an Associate Professor of German and Linguistics at Ithaca College, as he covers the essentials of building more complex sentences. Learn how to form compounds with “da-” and “wo-” plus a preposition, as in “dahin” (to there) and “wohin” (to where?). Get started with your first past tense form, confusingly called the present perfect. Concentrating on verbs classified as weak, discover that their present perfect forms are satisfyingly regular. Along the way, practice getting these syntactic elements in the right order.
