- [Instructor] The last type of font that I'm going to mention in this chapter is also the newest. They're called variable fonts and they give you the ability to customize the look of a typeface to maximize it's legibility at any size. The idea behind variable fonts is not new. In the days of metal typesetting fonts were customized for maximum legibility at every size. And in the digital era multiple master fonts were meant to serve the same purpose even though they never quite caught on. But now the idea is back and Adobe is implementing support for the new variable font technology into some of it's Creative Cloud applications like Illustrator and Photoshop. So here in Illustrator, in the exercise file for this movie, I have some type. And I'll use the properties panel to apply a variable font called Acumin. And if I show more options and then click on the variable font button I can access three sliders to adjust the weight, width and slant of this type. And as I drag the weight…
