- [Instructor] We've already talked a lot about the important role that nodes play in the Tor network and the purpose of entry guards, exit nodes, and relay nodes. We also talked about how directory authorities maintain a listing of Tor nodes that may be accessed by any Tor browser through directory servers. There are actually two different categories of Tor relay nodes. The vast majority of Tor nodes are advertised nodes. These are the nodes that serve as the workhorses of the Tor network, helping to build anonymizing Tor circuits around the world. These nodes are called advertised nodes because they're listed on the Tor consensus document cached by directory servers. Anyone who queries the directory can learn the identity of advertised nodes. There is another type of node called a bridge node. Bridge nodes are unadvertised nodes that work like any other Tor relay node, but they are not listed in the consensus document.
