- I've seen people make entire career changes just by meeting one right person who believes in them. We all hear the old saying, it's not what you know, it's who you know. But with 60 to 80% of jobs being filled through word-of-mouth and recommendation, networking is one of the most powerful parts of your career change strategy. Your existing network is a treasure trove of people waiting to be uncovered. These are the individuals who already know your strengths, trust your abilities, and can provide unique insights into the industries and roles you're interested in. They're also valuable because the people you know are the most likely to respond and give you support. Get out an A3 piece of paper and jot down all the key groups within your network. At this point, don't be picky about finding the most aligned person with your career aspirations. We just want to work out who you know.
