- There are some seriously outdated myths when it comes to career change. Let's try to debunk some of these common misconceptions. Misconception number one is that you have to retrain or go back to university to make a career change. Obviously, if you want to become an astronaut, you'll likely be unable to pass without a relevant degree, but for so many career changes, you may not need to retrain. Qualifications are still valuable, but there's a definite shift nowadays towards prioritizing experience. Work experience, shadowing, and internships where you can prove that you have relevant experience and skills may put you in a better position than just having an aligned degree. I've also seen people make impressive career changes and bypass tricky recruitment processes just because they've met the right person.
