How to identify your target market

- It's no mystery that the success of a business hinges on having customers. And to have customers, you need to find them. And to find them, you have to message them, and to message them, well, you have to know them. So if you're marketing without really knowing your customer, stop. The process of finding and knowing your customer is often done through customer segmentation. What you're doing is taking your broad target market and breaking it down into smaller, more manageable groups of people that have a lot in common. Let's say I'm an auto mechanic. My broad target market is probably anyone that owns a car within 15 miles of my shop. But this isn't specific enough for me to really target my marketing effectively. If we put that whole audience in a room, how similar would they actually be?
