From the course: Create Interactive Animations and Graphics with Rive

An overview of Rive

- [Instructor] There are occasions when one encounters an application that does so much so well that I refer to it as being deep and indulgent. By deep, I mean there are a multitude of tools and features that appeal to animators, game developers, UX designers and developers. By indulgent, I mean there are a variety of tools and features that in many respects make it a single application that, on one hand, can create complex animations, and on the other hand, makes it an ideal tool for the creation of interactive components that can be easily integrated into Figma. For UX designers, Rive brings static UI elements to life and offers significant advantages. Rive gives us the tools to create micro interactions on components. Hovers, spinners transitions, onboarding sequences with a higher degree of creative control than that offered by common UX design tools. Rive's timeline allows designers to test their concepts and make changes. This would include fine-tuning timing, easing curves, and overall animation flow, resulting in more polished end user-friendly incomes. Scalability is important as you will learn, Rive animations are vector-based, meaning they can easily scale to accommodate various viewpoints and resolutions with no quality loss. Of course, Rive gives us the creative freedom to play. We all play what I call what if games in order to create complex and expressive visual ideas. Rive lets designers play these games without the use of plugins, UI libraries, or the need for a solid knowledge of coding. When it comes to interactive animations, Rive's State Machine allows you to create interactive animations that respond to user input. For example, create a progress bar that dynamically fills based on down low percentage or a toggle switch that uses a transition that would be extremely difficult to create elsewhere. These are the features you will discover as you move through this course, which concentrates on the fundamentals of working with Rive. Not all the cool stuff you can do with Rive. As we all know, once you have a firm grasp of the basics, you can fearlessly start playing those what if games.
