- Due to the large number of security patches, hot fixes, and updates that can be released, each organization needs to create a standard operating system environment known as a baseline. Now, once the operating system is installed, updated, configured, and properly secured, that instance can be exported and saved as the standard image or baseline for all your new installations. This simplifies the process of securing a new machine, since all the hard work of configuring it has already been completed. Additionally, security baselines can be established and saved as group policies inside your Windows domain. This allows a system administrator to create a standardized set of configuration settings that may provide the minimum baseline of security for any new installation or current workstation inside your domain.
