Cables and connectors
- Let's talk about a cable type that you need to know for the CompTIA A+ exam. Direct-buried cable. Now, typical network cables like ethernet, fiber optics, or coax, are usually designed for indoor use. They've got a thinner outer sheath, which offers just a bit of protection, some resistance to cuts, and minimal waterproofing. But what happens if you need to run a cable outside, maybe from one building to another or underground for an outdoor access point? That's where indoor cable just won't cut it. Enter direct-buried cables. As the name it suggests. This cable is built to be buried directly in the ground. No extra conduit or piping needed. Technically speaking, direct-buried cable is a type of shielded, twisted pair, but with a lot of extra protection. It has multiple layers of insulation and waterproofing, and it is made to withstand extreme temperatures, moisture from rain or underground water, soil acidity, and even physical pressure from an environment. Another cool benefit…
