- One of the key things to understand about Scrum is that it's not a silver bullet that eliminates your problems. It doesn't do that, and as soon as you accept it, you can begin to deeply understand why Scrum is so valuable anyway. But if it's not a silver bullet, why has Scrum swept the project management world for so many years? Well, there are three simple reasons. First, Scrum is lightweight. You don't need a lot of processes or tools to use Scrum. You can use Scrum practices with any type of complex work. Second, Scrum is easy to understand. You could read the Scrum guide and get started without having any specific training. Would you be better at it after training? Of course you will, but it's not a requirement. And third, Scrum is hard to master. While that doesn't seem to make sense at first, bear with me as we work our way through it. Behind Scrum is the concept of empirical process control.
