Extracting depth data from a 3D scene

- [Instructor] You can now extract depth data from an advanced 3D scene just as easily as when using the classic 3D and cinema 4D renderers. This depth data can generate depth maps that will allow you to create more realistic composites by simulating real world camera settings or applying effects selectively, based on the 3D scene's depth. There are two main ways to work with depth data. The first one is to create a depth map using the 3D Channel Extract effect, or you can apply 3D Channel effects that reference the depth data directly. To demonstrate this, I'll use a comp with two 3D models from sketchfab.com, the animated Mechanical City Model, courtesy of 3DHaupt, and the bean bot model, courtesy of nataliedesign. I've already set up the scene with camera animation and an environment light to cast shadows using techniques I've shown you before.
