Using SSO Custom Attributes to Create Automatic Groups in Learning

Last updated: 4 years ago
From your SSO custom attributes, you can dynamically create groups and assign members to those by selecting Assign Groups during the custom attribute creation process. When you select this feature, a new group will be created for each unique value of that custom attribute, and the newly created groups will contain learners who have the same corresponding values.
Note: Please be sure to uncheck Assign Groups for attributes that are specific to a single learner, such as username or email address.
Below is an example of how this feature works:
  1. You create a new attribute, Office Location.
    • In this attribute, three values are available as per your SSO: Sydney Office, Tokyo Office, or Cairo Office.
  2. You select Assign groups, and as users within that group login, three new groups are created automatically:
    • Sydney Office
    • Tokyo Office
    • Cairo Office
  3. After login, learners with the following attribute values will be automatically assigned to these groups:
    • All learners with the Sydney Office value will be added to the Sydney Office group.
    • All learners with the Tokyo Office value will be added to the Tokyo Office group.
    • All learners with the Cairo Office value will be added to the Cairo Office group.
