    What’s my WHY? I saw a former shipmate at a homeless outreach—not volunteering, but in need. That moment drives me daily to share vital transition resources and veteran benefits that change lives.

    That’s why I think it’s so important to have those mentors, those north stars, who you can learn from and look up to. - Kobe Bryant As I think about this quilt from Kobe Bryant - I asked my self, “self - what qualities should a mentor have”. So I did what any self respecting graduate of Liberty University would do…..I Googled it 😁 Here’s what came up: 1️⃣ Relevant Expertise and Experience: Industry Knowledge: A mentor should have a strong understanding of your field or industry. 2️⃣ Career Path: Ideally, they should have a career path similar to the one you aspire to, or have experience navigating the challenges you're facing. 3️⃣ Success in their field: They should be someone who has achieved success in their career and can offer valuable insights based on their experience. Then I asked myself another thought provoking question. “Should a person have MULTIPLE mentors”? Here’s what Google told me: Yes - Benefits of Multiple Mentors: 1️⃣ Diverse Perspectives: Each mentor brings unique insights and experiences, allowing you to learn from various viewpoints and approaches. 2️⃣ Targeted Guidance: Different mentors can specialize in specific areas, providing tailored advice for your individual needs and goals. 3️⃣ Broader Network: Multiple mentors can introduce you to a wider range of contacts and resources, expanding your professional network. 4️⃣ Accelerated Growth: Exposure to diverse perspectives and experiences can accelerate your learning and development. 5️⃣ Overcoming Blind Spots: Different mentors can offer feedback from various angles, helping you identify and address blind spots or areas for improvement. 5️⃣ Protection Against Toxic Mentorship: Having multiple mentors can mitigate the risks associated with relying solely on one individual, as they can offer diverse viewpoints and potentially identify red flags.
