🦃💛 Thanksgiving Week on Grow Everything 🎙️🌱 As Thanksgiving approaches, we’ve been thinking a lot about the people who make food, share food, and build the kinds of communities that make any of it meaningful. At its heart, this holiday is about nourishment - not just what’s on the table, but who’s around it. This also marks three years of Grow Everything, and we just want to say: thank you. Thank you for listening, for sending notes, for debating big ideas with us, and for being part of this growing ecosystem. We honestly wouldn’t be here without you. To celebrate the week, we’re throwing back to a few episodes that feel especially right for the moment: 🍅 Nathan Pumplin, CEO of Norfolk Healthy Produce - on building trust in biotech food and showing how innovation can start with something as simple (and joyful) as a tomato. 🧫 Zack Abbott, Founder & CEO of ZBiotics - on modern probiotics, thoughtful GMO design, and what it really means to create biology that fits into real lives. 🧬 Dr. Casey Lardner, PhD, Executive Director of Genspace NYC - on community biology labs as spaces for experiential learning, ethical science, and belonging. And then on Friday, we’re replaying one of our favorite Thanksgiving-themed episodes on foodtech with Paul Shapiro, CEO & Co-Founder of Better Meat Co. Paul takes us into the world of fungi protein and alternative meats - but also into the bigger questions underneath it all: how we feed people well, how we steward resources, and what kind of future we’re actually trying to grow. However you’re spending this week, we hope it brings you good food, good people, and maybe even a little wonder about what’s possible next. With gratitude, Karl, Erum, & Lizette 💛 #Thanksgiving #GrowEverything #FoodInnovation #Bioeconomy #CommunityScience #AlternativeProtein #Biotech #Podcast #Gratitude

This week’s conversation is one of our most mind-bending yet. Karl Schmieder, MS MFA and Erum Azeez Khan sit down with Dr. Michael Levin, Vannevar Bush Distinguished Professor of Biology at Tufts University, whose work is reshaping how we think about life, intelligence, and the very foundations of synthetic biology. Michael invites us to rethink cells not as passive building blocks, but as agential matter—systems with goals, memory, and problem-solving abilities. From bioelectric patterning to Xenobots and next-generation regenerative biology, he shows what becomes possible when we stop “engineering” life and start collaborating with it. If you care about the future of biotech, regenerative medicine, or the emerging science of collective intelligence in living systems, this episode is a must-listen. 🎧 Now streaming on: Spotify: https://lnkd.in/ePKazSEd Apple: https://lnkd.in/ejpKiy_R YouTube: https://lnkd.in/eN9Nnvcz Like and subscribe on our substack as well: https://lnkd.in/ebbFUjFR 👉 Don’t miss this one. 🧬 It’s Edges of Biology Week on the Grow Everything Podcast! 🎙️ This week we're reporting from the edges of biology, where understanding cells is about expanding what’s possible for human health, planetary resilience, and the way we understand life itself. To honor that, we’re revisiting conversations that still inspire us: 🧬 Andrew Hessel of Humane Genomics, who challenges us to imagine a world where genomes aren’t just sequenced but booted up - flipping our understanding of life and computation. 💊 Dr. Vega Shah, PhD of NVIDIA, who shows how AI is accelerating biology in ways we could barely imagine even a few years ago - from growing materials to modeling proteins to rethinking drug discovery. ✨ Dr. Deniz Kent, PhD of Prolific Machines, who reminds us that science is something we co-create - and shares how controlling cells with light could change biomanufacturing forever. Each episode is a window into people who are pushing boundaries, asking bold questions, and building tools that will shape entire industries. And each one speaks to a simple truth: synthetic biology is no longer a niche. It’s becoming part of everything. 🌟 And on Friday, we’re excited to air a brand new episode with Dr. Michael Levin, Vannevar Bush Distinguished Professor of Biology at Tufts University, whose work stretches the imagination. From collective cellular intelligence to Xenobots to regenerative biology, Michael invites us to rethink what living systems are capable of…and what it means to communicate with them. As we explore the week ahead, we’re thinking about what it means to be creators in an age where biology itself is programmable. How do we grow responsibly, creatively, and ethically? Let’s find out - together. #GrowEverything #SyntheticBiology #Biotech #EmergingTech #Bioengineering #AI #Regeneration #Xenobots #FutureOfLife #Podcast #Biofabrication

Bio-innovation has the potential to transform industries, but what’s holding it back? A recent episode of the Grow Everything by Messaginglab podcast, which explores the bioeconomy, featured critical work from Capgemini Invent’s Richard Traherne and his team. The podcast highlighted our collaborative report with the World Economic Forum, “Next Generation Bio-Innovation”, as well as a Capgemini Insights report. Here, value creation is critical, and biotechnology must shift from a “technology push” “market pull” mentality. Bio-innovation should integrate mark drivers, regulatory alignment and strategic commercialization from the very start. Richard Taherne was also featured on an earlier episode of the “Grow Everything Biotech” podcast, where he shared his insights on how programmable biology is driving a new industrial revolution.
