Inquiry about Winapp2.ini integration and distribution

We are the developers of a disk space cleanup and complete apps uninstall utility and are considering adding support for Winapp2.ini to enhance its cleaning capabilities.

We would like to respectfully ask about the preferred method of distribution from your perspective. Would it be acceptable to pre-install a copy of the Winapp2.ini database directly with our application, or would you recommend that we instead prompt our users to download it manually from this repository? Of course, we will provide clear attribution and link back to this GitHub project in any case.

For context, our utility is a commercial product, but the cleaning functionality (which would use Winapp2.ini) is available without restrictions in the trial version. Only advanced features unrelated to freeing up disk space are limited to the paid version.

We are also open to any other suggestions or advice you might have.

Since Winapp2.ini is licensed under CC-BY-SA 4.0, you're welcome to include it in your application as long as proper attribution is provided and any modifications are shared under the same license.

Pre-installing is perfectly acceptable. However, if you prefer not to act middleman for updates - which can vary considerably in frequency and scope - you might consider offering users the option to download the latest version directly from this repository. BleachBit uses a similar approach

We plan to pre-install a copy of Winapp2.ini with our application. For updates, we believe the best user experience would be to implement an automatic update feature. We are considering fetching the latest version either from a mirror on our server or directly from this GitHub repository periodically (e.g., once every few days).

We want to ensure that direct downloading from GitHub complies with your rules and will not place any undue strain on the repository.

It would be good to avoid asking users to manually download the database, as this could be difficult for less technical users.

We would appreciate it if you have any comments on this approach.
