Feature Request: Adding a Second Tile Layer for Overlays (e.g., Waymarked Trails
-
Hi,
The plugin seems to handle only a single map layer (base maps) and it’s great that we add any map we want. I’d like to request the ability to add a second, simultaneous tile layer to the map.
The Use Case
Overlay tile services, like the Waymarked Trails hiking layer (https://tile.waymarkedtrails.org/hiking/{z}/{x}/{y}.png), are designed to be transparent. They only contain the trail lines and need a complete base map (like OpenStreetMap) underneath them to function correctly.Because the plugin doesn’t support a separate “Base Map” and “Overlay” concept, if i add the Waymarked Trails as a base map I am of course seeing just a few likes that represent the trails and not a full map.
Proposed Implementation Idea
The feature could be implemented simply as an optional “Second Map Layer URL” setting. If a URL is provided for this second layer, it should be loaded after the primary map layer, ensuring it is drawn on top (higher z-index) to act as the overlay.
This change would allow users to integrate powerful data overlays like hiking routes, cycle paths, weather radar, or terrain shading, using any public tile service URL.
Thank you for considering this enhancement!
