• Apologies if there is an ongoing or concluded discussion on this, I tried to use the search function.

I installed the WordPress App on my Android today and was surprised to notice that it doesn’t support themed icons.

That’s a bit disappointing because it’s not that much work (as programmers have told me) for a clear benefit in optics and user friendliness. Is there a reason for this lack of functionality, or has it simply not been requested enough?

If I had any relevant skills I would contribute them, but I’m the kind of person that fills the blog with text, not the person who can do anything with code or graphic design.

  • Hello there, Sebastian from Jetpack here. I hope you are doing well.

As you mentioned that feature is not yet develop on our mobile app. There is Github thread opened where you can add your request:

    https://github.com/wordpress-mobile/WordPress-Android/issues/18041

We cannot give an ETA of when this will be developed, but you can follow that thread to find any updates related.

I hope this helps; have a nice day,

That’s a great observation — themed icons are indeed a small but impactful visual improvement, especially with Android’s Material You design where consistency across apps enhances the user experience.

Currently, the WordPress Android app doesn’t support dynamic or themed icons simply because it hasn’t been prioritized yet, rather than due to technical limitations. It’s a relatively simple implementation (just adding a monochrome icon resource and updating the manifest), so it may appear in a future UI/UX refresh once the team focuses on design consistency.

Yeah, I had the same issue when I installed the WordPress app the themed icon didn’t show up properly.
I saw that a few others faced the same problem too, but they got it fixed after following a few customization steps.

You can do the same just check this site. They helped me sort it out quickly, so you can contact them there as well.

Hopefully WordPress adds official support soon, but this workaround really helps for now.

I’m seeing the same issue on my website as well the themed icon isn’t showing correctly in the WordPress app. I’ve re-uploaded the Site Icon, cleared caches/CDN, and ensured the tags use absolute URLs for both www and non-www, but it still persists. If anyone has a reliable fix, I’d really appreciate it.

    Hi @elizabeth25

Thanks for raising this. Although this isn’t a feature, the Github issue is still available here:
    https://github.com/wordpress-mobile/WordPress-Android/issues/18041

Please feel free to add a comment to that existing feature request. In the meantime, we’ll close this thread.

    Wishing you a nice day.
