The Content block displays the content of your posts and pages in site templates. In this guide, you will learn how to add the Content block to your templates.
The Content block displays the unique content from your pages and posts within your site’s templates. Templates provide the structure and design for your pages, but without the Content block, every page would look identical with no actual content. This block ensures that when someone visits your About page, they see your About content, and when they visit your Contact page, they see your Contact content.
The Content block automatically displays the correct content for each page or post. You can’t edit the content directly within this block.

The Content block displays your post and page content in templates. This block is added by default to most templates. Add this block when creating new templates or if your pages aren’t showing content.
To add the Content block to a template:
- Visit your site’s dashboard.
- Navigate to Appearance → Editor.
- Click the Templates menu item and select the template you wish to edit.
- Click on the + block inserter icon and search for “content”. Then, click it to add the block to the template.
For more information, visit our detailed instructions on adding blocks.
You can adjust how wide your content appears on your page. To change the Content block width, follow these steps:
- Click on the Content block.
- In the block toolbar, click the Align button.

- Select one of the following width options:
- None: Uses the default content width of your theme.
- Wide: Makes the block wider than the main content area, but not full width.
- Full: Expands the block to fill the full width of the screen.
- Click the Save button in the top-right to save your changes.
For more detailed information about block alignment options, see our guide on how to change the width of a block.
You can customize the default appearance of the Content block. This controls the overall look of the Content block itself, not the individual content inside it. When you create content within your pages and posts, you can style those individual blocks separately.
To access the Content block style settings, follow these steps:
- Click on the Content block.
- In the block settings sidebar, click the Styles tab to access the styling options.
- Use any of the following settings to customize the block:
- Color settings: Change background and text colors.
- Background image: Add a background image to the block.
- Typography settings: Adjust font family, size, and other text properties.
- Dimensions settings: Control padding, margins, and spacing.
- Border settings: Add a border to the block.
- Click the Save button in the top-right to save your changes.
The Content block displays your page and post content within templates. Removing this block means that pages using the template won’t show any content, so it’s not recommended. To remove the Content block, follow the instructions in our guide on how to remove a block.
